Gynecology Care: Pap Smear & Cultures

Gynecology care in Houston, TX: Pap smear, vaginal cultures and infection treatment. In Spanish, with affordable pricing.

The clinic's gynecology visit covers your routine checkup and also the intimate symptoms that can feel awkward to bring up. The medical team sees you in a private exam room, in Spanish or English, with Pap smears, vaginal cultures and treatment of infections, without waiting weeks for an appointment.

Which services are included?

  • Pap smear (Pap test) to find changes in the cervix
  • A routine gynecological exam
  • A vaginal culture when there's unusual discharge, itching, burning or odor
  • Treatment for yeast or bacterial infections
  • A mammogram order and a referral to a specialist when your case needs it

How do you prepare for a Pap smear?

  1. Pick a day when you're not on your period; light spotting rarely gets in the way, but heavy bleeding can affect the sample.
  2. Give it a two-day break beforehand: no douching, no vaginal products and no intercourse, so the cells show up clearly.
  3. Have two dates ready on your phone: the first day of your latest period and roughly when your previous Pap was.
  4. If you're pregnant or think you might be, mention it when you arrive.

What is the sample collection like?

You lie on the exam table and a speculum is placed so the cervix can be seen. A soft brush collects a few cells, and the same goes for a culture if one is needed. You may feel pressure or brief discomfort, but it takes only a few minutes and you can ask to stop at any point.

How often should you get a Pap?

General guidelines recommend starting at 21 and, if results are normal, repeating every 3 years; after 30 it is sometimes combined with an HPV test. The medical team tells you which schedule fits your age and past results.

What happens with your results?

  • If you need treatment for an infection, you get it during the visit
  • Pap and culture results come back from the lab, and you'll be contacted as soon as they're ready
  • An abnormal Pap doesn't mean cancer: it usually calls for a follow-up exam, and a referral to a specialist is arranged

Are there women's health packages?

Yes: the Complete Women's Checkup and the Women's Intimate Health package are listed on the promotions page. Very heavy bleeding, severe belly pain with fever, or fainting needs the ER, not a routine visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's best to wait until bleeding stops, because blood can affect the sample. If it's only light spotting, mention it at check-in and the medical team will decide whether to take the test or have you come back.

Not always, but a strong odor, gray or clumpy discharge and itching usually point to a bacterial or yeast infection. A vaginal culture helps identify which one so the treatment actually works.

Most women feel pressure or brief discomfort when the speculum goes in, not strong pain. Slow breathing and relaxing your belly help. You can ask for a smaller speculum or ask to stop if you feel uncomfortable.
