Wound Care

Wound care in Houston, TX. Cleaning and dressings in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

Wound care is the attention an injury needs after the first moment: cleaning it, changing its dressings and making sure it keeps healing. At Clínica Hispana Cruz the medical team sees you for regular dressing visits until the skin closes, and shows you how to look after it between visits.

Which wounds are treated with ongoing care?

  • Surgical wounds that need checking and a dressing change
  • Leg or foot ulcers that are slow to close
  • Minor burns with small blisters
  • Large scrapes and wounds that already look irritated
  • Cuts that were stitched and need follow-up

What happens at each dressing visit?

  1. The old dressing is removed carefully.
  2. The medical team looks at the wound's color, size and drainage.
  3. It is cleaned and disinfected, removing debris that slows healing.
  4. A dressing suited to the wound type goes on and is wrapped again.
  5. We tell you when to come back for the next change.

Why do some wounds take longer?

Diabetes, poor circulation, smoking and some medications can slow healing. If you have diabetes, check your feet every day and don't wait for a blister to get worse. If the wound does not improve with care, the medical team arranges a referral to a specialist.

Which signs point to infection?

  • A red ring that covers more skin around the injury each day
  • Warmth, more pain or swelling than the day before
  • Pus, greenish drainage or a bad smell
  • Red streaks running up the skin, or fever

How do you care for it between visits?

Wash your hands before touching the dressing, keep it dry and don't change it yourself unless you were told to. A large burn, a burn on the face, or a wound with high fever and feeling very sick needs the emergency room. Bring any leftover dressings and your medication list to each visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

A heavily draining ulcer usually needs closer visits than a clean surgical incision. After each dressing change you'll hear when to come back, and the gaps between visits grow as the skin closes.

Yes. Bring the discharge sheet from the hospital or center where you had the operation. The medical team checks the incision, cleans it, changes the dressing and tells you if anything means going back to your surgeon.

Better not. Cover it with a plastic bag taped shut while you shower, unless you were told otherwise, and save tubs, pools and the ocean for when the skin has fully closed.
