Flu and Tetanus (Tdap) Vaccines

Flu and tetanus vaccines in Houston, TX. Administered by medical staff in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

At Clínica Hispana Cruz we give two adult vaccines: the influenza (flu) shot, renewed every season, and the tetanus toxoid booster that protects against tetanus. They help if you want to get through the winter protected, or if you got a cut and can't remember your last dose.

Which of the two do you need right now?

  • Flu shot: the CDC recommends it every year for nearly everyone 6 months and older; early fall is the best time.
  • Tetanus toxoid: adults get a booster every 10 years.
  • After a dirty or deep wound, you may need it sooner if 5 or more years have passed since your last dose.
  • If you don't know when you were vaccinated, the medical team helps you decide.

What should you mention before the shot?

Tell the medical team if you ever had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine, if you have a high fever today, or if you have had Guillain-Barré syndrome. A mild cold usually does not stop you from getting vaccinated. Also mention if you are pregnant so we can give you guidance that fits your stage.

What happens during the vaccine visit?

  1. We confirm your details and go over your health history.
  2. We explain in Spanish or English which vaccine you are getting and what it is for.
  3. It goes into the arm muscle, usually the arm you use less.
  4. You stay seated in the waiting area for a few minutes in case you feel dizzy.
  5. You leave with the date of the dose written down for your personal record.

What is normal to feel afterward?

The most common thing is a heavy, tender shoulder when you sleep on that side, with some redness where the needle went in; some people wake up tired or slightly feverish. If you notice trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or spreading hives, call 911 right away. Keep the card with your dose alongside your papers and stop by Airline Drive when the next one is due.

Frequently Asked Questions

The answer hinges on the date of your last tetanus booster. If it was 5 or more years ago, or you can't remember, the medical team may recommend the tetanus toxoid while checking the wound. Come in soon so the cut gets properly cleaned too.

Usually yes: one goes in your left arm and the other in your right. The medical team first checks your health history and explains what to expect from each one so you can decide calmly.

Yes. The influenza virus changes and the vaccine's protection fades over the months, so a new dose is recommended every season, ideally at the start of fall.
