DOT Physical Exam - CDL License

DOT physical exam in Houston, TX for CDL license, same-day certificate, in Spanish. With affordable pricing.

To drive a truck, a bus or any commercial vehicle with a CDL you need an up-to-date Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. At Clínica Hispana Cruz we do it in Spanish or English, go over every section of the federal form with you and, if you meet the standards, you leave with your medical certificate at the end of the visit.

What does the DOT exam check?

  • Visual acuity and color vision, with or without glasses
  • Hearing, to confirm you can hear well at a set distance
  • Blood pressure and pulse
  • A urine sample to check for sugar, protein and blood
  • A head-to-toe check: listening to heart and lungs, feeling the abdomen, testing spine and reflexes
  • A review of your medical history and the medicines you take

What should you bring?

  • Your CDL or learner's permit and a photo ID
  • Glasses or contact lenses, and hearing aids if you use them
  • Every medicine you take written down, with its name and dose
  • If you have diabetes, sleep apnea, heart problems or another condition, your treatment records or a note from whoever treats you

How do you prepare so it goes smoothly?

Take your blood pressure or diabetes medicines as usual; skipping them for the exam only makes the readings worse. Get a good night's sleep and avoid too much coffee or tobacco right before, since they can raise your blood pressure. Fill out your part of the form calmly and answer honestly: hiding a condition can void your certificate.

What happens at the end of the exam?

  1. You sit down with the medical team to review what the exam found.
  2. If you meet the requirements, you receive your DOT medical certificate to present where needed.
  3. When something like high blood pressure needs closer follow-up, the certificate can come with a shorter validity.
  4. If information is missing, we tell you which document to bring to complete the exam.

What if I'm coming straight off a route?

Many drivers come in between trips, which is why we see patients without appointments every day. Come rested and with your papers in a folder: the trailer can stay home, but your medication list can't. The clinic sits on Airline Drive and sees drivers from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many people with controlled high blood pressure pass. What matters is taking your treatment as usual and arriving rested. If your pressure reads high, the certificate may be issued for a shorter time or you may be asked to come back once it's under control.

Yes. If you reach the required vision with glasses or contacts, you can pass, and the certificate notes that you must always drive wearing them. Wear them or bring them in their case on exam day.

Bring your medication list and information about your treatment, such as your blood sugar log or a note from whoever manages your diabetes. With that, the medical team can assess your case under the federal criteria for drivers who use insulin.
