Stool Tests

Stool tests in Houston, TX. Detection of parasites and infections, in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

When diarrhea won't go away, your stomach bloats for no clear reason or you notice odd changes in the bathroom, a stool test can find the cause. At Clínica Hispana Cruz we give you the kit to collect the sample at home, and the medical team goes over the result with you in Spanish or English.

What can the sample reveal?

  • Intestinal parasites and their eggs
  • Bacteria or other germs that cause gut infections
  • Hidden blood you can't see, when the medical team orders it
  • Traces of fat, mucus or undigested food that give clues about digestion

When is it ordered?

The test is considered for diarrhea lasting several days, cramps that keep coming back, a lot of gas, mucus in the stool or weight loss with no explanation. It also helps when several people in the family have the same symptoms, or after a trip where you had questionable water or food.

Home collection: how does it work?

  1. Stop by the clinic to pick up the clean, lidded container and a label with your name.
  2. Pass the stool onto clean plastic wrap or a dry container, never straight from toilet water.
  3. Use the little scoop to take a portion, especially from any parts with mucus or blood.
  4. Close it tightly, wash your hands and bring it in as soon as you can; if you have to wait, keep it somewhere cool.

What should you do while you wait?

Drink plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated, and wash your hands often, especially before cooking. We let you know as soon as the result arrives; if it shows a parasite or an infection, the medical team gives you the treatment and tells you whether the people you live with should be checked too.

If you see a lot of blood in your stool, can't stop vomiting, feel dizzy when you stand up or are barely peeing, go to the emergency room without waiting for the test. The collection kit is waiting at our front desk seven days a week, from 9 AM to 9 PM; just ask for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Better not. A kitchen jar can hold traces of food or soap that throw off the analysis. Ask for the container at the clinic: it's clean, seals well and comes with a small scoop to take just the right amount.

Some products, like anti-diarrheals, laxatives, antibiotics or deworming pills, can change what shows up in the sample. Keep taking them until you've talked it over; the medical team reviews your list and says whether the sample should wait a few days.

Nighttime itching is often linked to pinworms, tiny worms that don't always show up in a regular stool test. Bring your child in: the medical team checks them and decides whether the stool sample is enough or another way of detecting them is needed.
