Wound Suturing

Wound suturing in Houston, TX. Closing cuts and wounds in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

When a cut stays open, keeps bleeding or its edges won't come together, it needs stitches. At Clínica Hispana Cruz the medical team cleans the wound, numbs the area with local anesthetic and closes it during the same visit, no appointment needed, so it heals better with less risk of infection.

How can you tell if your cut needs stitches?

  • Bending the finger, knee or elbow makes the cut gape open
  • It is deep and you can see fat or tissue under the skin
  • Blood still soaks through the cloth after ten minutes of firm pressing
  • It's on your face, lips or palm, where the way it closes matters
  • Dirt, glass or other debris is stuck inside

What should you do on the way to the clinic?

Press on the wound with gauze or a clean cloth and keep it raised if you can. Rinse it with clean water, but skip ointments, powders and home remedies. If blood is spurting, won't stop with pressure, or the cut is very large, call 911 or go to the emergency room.

What happens on the exam table?

  1. The medical team checks how deep the wound is and whether anything is inside.
  2. The area is washed and disinfected thoroughly.
  3. Local anesthetic is applied so you don't feel the closure.
  4. The stitches go in and are covered with a dressing.
  5. We explain in Spanish or English how to care for them at home and when to come back to have them removed.

How do you care for stitches at home?

  • Don't get the gauze wet before the date the medical team writes down for you
  • Wash the area gently and pat it dry, without rubbing
  • Don't scratch or pull on the threads
  • Come back sooner if you notice pus, a bad smell, spreading redness or fever

What about the tetanus shot?

If the cut came from something dirty or rusty and your last booster was years ago, ask about the tetanus toxoid during the same visit. A cut can't wait: walk into our Airline Drive clinic as soon as it happens, between 9 AM and 9 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Come in anyway. A wound that has been open for many hours carries more infection risk, so the medical team decides whether stitching still makes sense or wound care is the better route.

You will only feel the local anesthetic shot, which stings for a few seconds. After that the area is numb, and you may feel light pressure or tugging, but not the pain of the closure.

You can come back to the clinic to have them taken out. Timing depends on where the wound is on your body, and the medical team tells you when to return once the stitching is done.
